Born and educated in Carlisle, Gil Hitchon worked as a journalist and editor before retraining as a social worker. His interest in Sam Bough dates back 20 years when he first researched an article for the centenary of his death. Pat Hitchon has lived in Cumbria for most of her life. She worked for Cumbria Country Council until 1994. She is Senior Finance Officer for Cumbria Careers Ltd. Her interests include fashion design and the history of art, and she is an enthusiastic visitor of art galleries.
