Synopsis
This guide to Provence is split into three main parts. The first section provides a background to the region, covering: nature, history, language, life style and architecture. It also shows how Provence has been seen by writers and painters, from Cezanne and Picasso, to Dante and Nietzsche. The second section contains itineraries for visitors to Provence. The areas covered include: Avignon, Marseilles, Nice, Monaco, Orange, Cannes, Antibes, Aix-en-Provence and the Camargue. There are also two special gatefolds on the old port of Marseille and the old Avignon. The final section provides practical information on how to get to Provence, lists of restaurants, hotels, markets and museums, and general information on excursions.
