Featuring the juxtaposition of contemporary living with the remnants of a building's original shell, even the most simple loft should have the dramatism often lacking in all but the best examples of contemporary design. Marcus Field, former editor of Blueprint, is the Culture Editor at The Independent on Sunday newspaper. Mark Irving is a freelance architecture, design and art commentator; who regularly writes for publications including The Independent, The Daily Telegraph and Arena.
