Synopsis
A photographic celebration of the traditional farm animals of Great Britain and Europe, showing the animals in close-up and aiming to record their personalities as well as the novelty and beauty of the breed. The text gives the history of each breed, supplementing the photographs with anecdotal detail and clear explanations of the increasing importance of these rare breeds. Many of these animals were on the verge of extinction until a few years ago, when increasing doubts about the wisdom of modern intensive farming techniques led to a new renewed interest in the older breeds of farm animal.
