Synopsis

Bobby Sands was twenty seven years old when he died. He spent almost nine years of his life in prison because of his Irish Republican Activities. He died, in prison, on 5 May 1981, on the sixty sixth day of his hunger strike. Bobby Sands gained world-wide recognition due to his hunger strike which he refused to abandon, defiantly withstanding political and moral pressure. He also embarrassed the British establishment by being elected as MP to Westminster for Fermanagh and South Tyrone. One Day in My Life was written on sheets of toilet paper with biro refills in a small filthy cell covered with excrement. It is more than just Bobby Sands's story - it is the story of his comrades who suffered similar oppression and abuse in the hell that was Long Kesh prison outside Belfast. It is a book about human bravery, endurance, courage and determination against a backdrop of suffering, anguish, terror and harassment. This book, which documents one day in the life of Bobby Sands, will live on as a constant reminder of what should never have happened. And what shall hopefully never happen again.
