Are Jesus and the Christ necessarily one and the same, or could the two possibly be understood in another way? In this new and provocative approach to the person and identification of Jesus of Nazareth, Stephen White may perhaps stimulate some people or annoy others, and some may even find themselves longing for the good old days when heretics were burned at the stake! He would, however, argue strongly for the ultimate orthodoxy of the unfamiliar and potentially threatening or disturbing views advanced here, and, in the end, perhaps, some may even find that the Christ is to be met with more fully and more life-enhancingly in contingency than in necessity, and faith may, by unfamiliar paths, be enriched rather than diminished.
