Synopsis
This text provides an introduction to programming practice and an account of current program languages. The techniques and practices covered centre on program development within a data processing environment and aim to be essentially practical. By following them, students should be able to develop programs which work first time, continue to work and are easy to maintain. All aspects of programming are covered, including operating software, languages, the development life cycle, systems analysis, data structures and the concept of good programming. Practical exercises with answers are used throughout to illustrate the text. Each chapter contains a set of objectives, activities and questions. This new edition sets out to emphasize the reliablity and robustness of good programs and the achievement of high coding standards. The section on databases is much expanded to include material on modern data base management systems. The book is aimed at BTEC/ScotVec students of computing and students of NCC Diploma courses.
