Synopsis
This text provides the essential mathematical background and explanation required by students of computing. Computing students do not need a high level of mathematical competence, but they do need to be familiar with a range of basic mathematical and statistical concepts. This book covers these principles concentrating on what needs to be known, and how to apply techniques rather than the mathematical theory behind them. The emphasis is on the practical information data processers need, and throughout, the author explains the relevance of the maths to computing. The book includes many examples, some of which are worked in the chapters, others left for the reader to attempt. It covers elementary arithmetic, algebra, graph work, statistics, logic and matrices. The first edition of this text was titled "Computer-Related Mathematics and Statistics".
