Robert Fludd, 1574-1637, was a man of diverse talents. A member of the Royal College of Physicians in London, he also set up a large alchemical laboratory, which developed a highly improved form of steel-making for that time. This book contains a selection of extracts from Fludd's numerous publications, illustrating his avant garde thinking during the critical turning point of the 17th century. Included are extracts from Fludd's work on the history of microcosm and macrocosm, the "Magnum Opus", his defence of the Rosicrucians and a list of his friends and patrons including King James I and King Charles I.

A solid and attractive reading and reference copy. A fascinating anthology of writings by the English physician, hermetic philosopher, Rosicrucian defender, and alchemist Robert Fludd (1574-1637), one of the great esoteric thinkers of the Renaissance and early modern scientific era. Selected and edited by noted historian William H. Huffman, this volume introduces Fludd's complex synthesis of medicine, cosmology, mysticism, music theory, alchemy, astrology, and Neoplatonic philosophy. The collection draws from Fludd's monumental Latin works, including discussions of the microcosm and macrocosm, divine harmony, spiritual correspondences, Rosicrucianism, and his famous intellectual disputes with Johannes Kepler. Fludd occupies a pivotal place in the transition between medieval occult philosophy and the emerging scientific revolution, making this an important sourcebook for the history of science, Western esotericism, hermeticism, and Renaissance thought. An increasingly desirable title among collectors and readers interested in alchemy, occult studies, Rosicrucian history, early modern medicine, sacred geometry, hermetic philosophy, and the intellectual currents surrounding figures such as Paracelsus, John Dee, Athanasius Kircher, and Giordano Bruno.
