Synopsis

Written by a defector from the upper echelon of a controversial cult, this book presents the facts about destructive cults, focusing on their use of psychological manipulation to gain money, power and influence and their methods of mind control used to recruit and control members. Hassan describes his experience of cult life, including his own recruitment and indoctrination. He shows how mind control techniques can inflict serious psychological damage and leave an individual unable to think for her or himself. Now working as an exit counsellor, helping people to break away from cults and return to society, Hassan presents a strategy for recovery, re-education and rescuing a loved one from a destructive cult without coercion, stressing the importance of approaching cult members with compassion rather than condemnation. Guidance is given for distinguishing destructive cults from legitimate organizations and protecting ourselves, friends and families from mind control.
