About the Author

Albert Memmi was born in Tunisia in 1920 while it was a French protectorate. During World War II Memmi was interned in a forced labour camp and moved to Paris in 1946. He has taught at the Sorbonne and the Université de Paris, and has been awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d Honneur.
