This textbook provides an introduction to the subject of statistics and aims to equip the student with a sound grasp of the basic principles involved. It is written to enable the reader to take the simpler professional examination, if not an organized course leading to General, National or Higher National Certificate. It is also written with the purpose of covering the syllabus associated with Paper I of a pure statistics A-level course. The text assumes no more knowledge of mathematics than is necessary for GCSE. The only mathematics with which students are likely to unfamiliar are permutations and combinations and S notation. However, the text has gone a long way to explain these. All chapters end with exercises that are graded in strength and cover most aspects of the topics described in the chapter. Answers to some of these are also documented at the end of the text to enable the reader to assess his or her progress.
