Since the early 1960's Claes Oldenburg has been making 'multiples', which he defines as sculptures produced in editions of 26 or more. Making numerous reproductions of transformed objects, such as a bar of soap or a slice of wedding cake, Oldenburg uses the multiple to counteract the exclusivity of art.
