The American showjumper, William Steinkraus, who rode in five Olympic Games and won the individual gold medal in 1968 and four other medals, was already an Olympic rider when he wrote his first book about riding and jumping. He acknowledged that topics had been omitted which he felt he lacked the experience to deal with, but these omissions are rectified by this entirely new work on riding and horsemanship, based on three more decades of experience. Following his retirement from competition, Steinkraus served for two decades as President and then Chairman of the United States Equestrian Team.
William Steinkraus, a member of the U.S. Equestrian Team for every years, has ridden in five Olympics, winning four medals--including the first individual equestrian gold medal ever won by an American. He has won over 100 international competitions, including many of the world's most coveted trophies. He lives in Noroton, Connecticut.
