This book describes the introduction of the RAF's first dedicated fighter bomber, the Typhoon, in 1942 and its successor, the Tempest, in 1944. The author commanded the first Typhoon squadron to specialize in fighter ground attack. He writes about the background to their development, the pilots who flew them and their operational record including Tempest operations in 1944 from D-Day, through the V1 flying bomb battle and on to Europe and the Rhine. A concluding chapter compares the Tempest with other comparable fighter aircraft and the author argues that it was in many ways superior to all the others.
