Synopsis
The magnificent African Rift Valley is a 3,500 mile trough in the Earth's crust, stretching from Northern Ethiopia to Mozambique. It is a region of abundant wildlife and unparalleled cultural significance. National Geographic photographer Chris Johns travelled for 18 months along the Rift, encountering people who, as he says, might just as well as have walked "out of a mirage" for all their exoticism to Westerners. His photographs mirror the relationship between man, the wildlife and the landscape, and through his constent shifting of perspectives, he shows us the Rift Valley as few have ever seen it.

He has taken readers down the Zambezi River, examined the Bushmen¿s ongoing struggle for cultural survival, and provided important documentation of Africa¿s endangered wildlife.
