Synopsis
The benefits of project-based group work in helping people to realize their potential have long been recognized. What has been lacking, however, is a methodology to enhance and improve the process. This manual, which sets out the basic concepts of project-based group work and gives guidelines on how to manage different elements of the process, seeks to fill this gap. Written primarily for those involved with youths, the manual is not intended to be prescriptive but rather to act as a foundation from which group facilitators can develop their own style and techniques.

Throughout, the authors usefully focus on skills that often go unnoticed within youth work. They highlight the importance of the processes that occur during the projects, such as the empowerment of young people to achieve specific tasks, and the dialogue that might develop between individuals, rather than the more obvious success of the projects themselves, a useful text.
