Synopsis
The jockey Lester Piggott looks back on a career at the top which is unparalleled in both achievement and longevity. It is the story of an extraordinary riding record that made him a household name, and also of his life out of the saddle. He gives his views on the great horses he has ridden, the great races he has won and his often turbulent relationship with the sport's authorities. He also assesses the outstanding performers from four generations of jockeys against whom he has competed, and analyzes his partnership with outstanding trainers. Among aspects of his private life which are covered in the book are his deafness and the humiliation of his trial and conviction for tax fraud, which led to a term of imprisonment.
