While his poetry has been widely acclaimed, he has become better known for his controversial novels, especially for The White Hotel (1981), an international bestseller, and for his quintet of novels, Russian Nights. His most recent novel is Flying in to Love (Bloomsbury), an exploration of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
