This is a very useful introductory study for the student of ethics, distinguishing the several elements of "forgiveness" and associated concepts such as pardon, understanding, tolerance, repentance, resentment, mutuality, healing, forgetting, trust and reconciliation, which are well illustrated in a Christian context by contemporary references and anecdotes. Rice-Oxley deals with forgiveness between individuals only; forgiveness between nations or communities is not covered. Review by Jill Pinock, 1990, Theological Book Review
