Synopsis
This conference was the first in a series of conferences dedicated to Fracture Mechanics of Concrete Structures. It was organized by the recently formed International Association of Fracture Mechanics of Concrete Structures, based in Northwestern University, Evanston, USA. The conference covered all aspects of concrete structures as well as fracture problems of other quasibrittle materials that are relevant to concrete structures, with particular emphasis on methods of structural mechanics and design. Due to the recent explosion of interest in research on fracture in concrete, the conference brought together the world's leading researchers in fracture of concrete with the aim of promoting research on fracture mechanics and to introduce fracture mechanics concepts into the design practice of concrete structures which has not been done before.
