A career in fashion, a love of fabrics, a lifetime making clothes, a keen sense of styles that work for women of all ages and shapes: this is the perfect cocktail of skills and passion that make Frances Tobin s patterns for The Maker's Atelier so successful.
For this book, Frances has designed eight essential patterns, with variations to create a collection of 31 versatile pieces. The collection is mix-and-match, offering lifestyle outfits for office days to weekend dog walks to elegantly glamorous evening wear, including a stretch pencil skirt, a pair of cigarette pants, a drape-front top and an over-sized t-shirt.
Key fashion trends are refined to create stylishly simple shapes, now staples in the wardrobes of thousands of women, and then translated into dressmaking patterns that make up easily into garments.
Patterns are in a range of sizes, from UK sizes 8 to 20, with information on measuring and fitting, and advice on fabrics. Only simple sewing skills are needed, and clear illustrations guide you through making each piece, so you can confidently concentrate on creating your own essential collection.

Frances Tobin trained in Fashion & Textiles and graduated from London's prestigious Royal College of Art. While Frances went on to design fashion ranges for many leading brands, including Gucci, Les Copains, Esprit, French Connection and Warehouse, she always continued to make her own clothes to her own designs in order to get the look that she really wanted. Frances founded her pattern brand, The Maker s Atelier, on the belief that the simplest shapes in the finest fabrics make the most successful clothes.

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. This is a book for women of any age or shape who want to dress well but cannot always find what they want on the high street. Designer Frances Tobin has taken the key shapes from some of the most enduring fashion trends, such as the stretch pencil skirt, the cigarette pants, the tie-neck blouse and the oversized t-shirt, and refined them into clear dressmaking patterns with easy-to-follow instructions. Frances has sourced the perfect fabrics to suit each garment and shows four alternative looks for each of the eight patterns to provide further technical know-how as well as style ideas to enable the home dressmaker to make their own capsule collection of garments unique to them. For example, the pencil skirt is shown in a taupe woven stretch gabardine to suit an elegant working wardrobe, but alternatively this skirt takes on an edgier look when made up in metallic copper stretch fabric with a raw hem. With the 8 dressmaking patterns supplied in the pack alongside the book, and given in sizes UK 8 to 20, The Makers Atelier: The Essential Collection makes it possible for all women whether dressmaking novices or accomplished seamstresses to own an enviable selection of timeless and adaptable staple garments. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR008850727
