Review

'Marr has a real talent as a draughtsman and his enthusiasm is infectious.' --The Sunday Times (Culture), 1st December 2013

'Tom collects old typewriters, Johnny Depp plays with his limited edition Barbie dolls, and Simon Cowell climbs trees every day. Andrew Marr draws. And draws and draws...I always knew he was a drawer, but not that he was as good as this...[The book] may be short (it is little more than an extended essay) but it is huge on breadth. There are chapters on how drawing related to happiness, how it is all about looking harder, how it began and how it might develop... A Short Book About Drawing is what drawing is all about. It's more than a hobby.' --The Times {Saturday review}, 2nd November 2013

'A unique take on the subject of drawing from the journalist and TV pressenter Andrew Marr. He explores drawing and painting through his own experience, considering the mechanics of the drawing process along with the ways in which good drawing or painting can make us think harder and see the world differently. He also investigates the tensions between drawing as a concentrated work and drawing as an expression of freedom or play.' --Daily Mail, 14th November 2013

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Like millions of others, Andrew Marr draws. He hasn't had lessons, yet since childhood, the journalist and TV presenter has been at his happiest with a pen or brush in his hand. One way or another he draws most days, even if it's just a doodle on the edge of a newspaper. But why does he do it? Does it have a point? And in what way, if any, does this activity of his relate to what we think of as 'art'? In this intriguing new book, Andrew Marr explores the subject of drawing and painting through his own experience. He considers the mechanics of the drawing process - the act of making and its importance for a happy life - along with the ways in which good drawing or painting can make us think harder and see the world differently. He also investigates the tensions between drawing as concentrated work and drawing as an expression of freedom or play, and looks at the historical differences between drawing and fine art as well as how drawing fits into today's art world. Written in his signature fresh, engaging and evocative style and illustrated with his own work, A Short Book About Drawing is Andrew Marr's unique take on this absorbing subject. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR005258385
