The James Plays are a modern cycle of history plays by award-winning playwright Rona Munro. This vividly-imagined trilogy brings to life three generations of Stewart Kings who ruled Scotland in the tumultuous fifteenth century.
Each play stands alone as a unique vision of a country tussling with its past and future; viewed together they create a complex and compelling narrative on Scottish culture and nationhood.
Through bold and irreverent storytelling, James I: The Key Will Keep the Lock explores the complex character of the colourful Stewart king - poet, lover and law-maker.
A violent royal playground is depicted in James II: Day of the Innocents, a terrifying arena of sharp teeth and long knives.
Like the king himself, James III: The True Mirror is colourful and unpredictable, turning its attention to the women at the heart of the royal court.

About the Author
Award-winning playwright Rona Munro's previous plays include Iron (Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, and Royal Court Theatre, London), The Last Witch (Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh) and Little Eagles (RSC). Her work for the screen includes Ladybird, Ladybird and Oranges and Sunshine.
