Number 91 in Nick Hern Book's Drama Classics series, providing great drama at a great price. Includes the full text, plus a short introduction that takes in the life of the playwright, the plot and subplot the themes and, social concerns and source material.
Lorca's extraordinarily powerful drama, the last he wrote before his assassination, explores the darkness at the heart of repression. When Bernarda Alba's husband dies, she locks all the doors and windows. She tells her grown-up daughers to sew and be silent. But not even the tyranny of Bernarda's repressive rule can cool the passion and desire that smoulder darkly within the household.
