This book provides an invaluable single source of information on woven textiles and their production. An extensive review of both fundamental issues such as woven fabric formation and also more technical weaving information, such as modeling are provided. The book is divided into different sections on fundamentals of woven structure, its mechanics, product design and practical applications. Modelling the structure of woven textile provides a very useful and practical insight into weaving for all those engaged in the designing and production of woven fabrics.
Key Features: provides comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals of woven fabric structure including geometrical modeling; examines mechanisms of woven fabric structure featuring shrinkage, buckling, bending and creasing behaviour of textiles; illustrates mathematical modeling and building predictive models for textile product design incorporating validation and testing.
Contents: Part 1 Fundamentals of woven fabric structure: The basics of woven fabric structure; Geometrical modeling of woven fabric structure; Using a geometric model to predict woven fabric properties; Woven fabric properties after structural modifications. Part 2 Mechanics of woven fabric structure: Shrinkage in woven fabrics; Yarn behaviour in woven fabrics; Tensile behaviour of woven fabrics; Buckling behaviour of woven fabrics; Bending behaviour of woven fabrics; Creasing in woven fabrics; Shear behaviour of woven fabrics; Compression behaviour of woven fabrics; Friction and other aspects of the surface behaviour of woven fabrics. Part 3 Design engineering of woven fabrics: Textile product design methods; Modeling for textile product design: Building predictive models for textile product design; Modeling for woven fabric design. Part 4 Practical applications: Assessing the comfort of woven fabrics: fabric hand; Assessing the comfort of woven fabrics: thermal properties; Modeling woven fabric drape; Modeling woven fabric behaviour during the making-up of garments; Modeling three-dimensional (3-D) woven fabric structures; Application of woven fabrics.
