Synopsis
Handknitting allows the designer an unbounded freedom to create a completely personal expression of their art through the use of colour, embellishments, structure and styling, using only knitting needles and skeins of yarn. In this beautiful book, previously published in the USA as 'Norsk Strikkedesign', some of Norway's foremost knitting designers present twenty-two unique knitted garments, all using classic Norwegian-spun wool yarns and based on traditional Norwegian patterns. Each design is accompanied by stunning photographs of the items themselves as well as the countryside that inspired them, and details of the materials used, pattern charts and detailed instructions. This book presents the very best of contemporary Norwegian knitwear design, drawing on its traditional roots and planting it firmly in the twenty-first century.

Nov 12 A stunning display of extraordinary knits. This is definitely not, in my opinion, for the beginner knitter but aimed at the artistic adventurous crafter with the time and money to make individual highly detailed quality knits. One for the repressed fashion or art students amongst us. The photography in the book is stunning. The designs of the clothes are so intricate as to take your breath away. It's a colourful display of the heritage of Norway. There are some simpler accessories but they are light on the ground. Also the clothes are nearly all for women. There are 22 designs in total. There are 11 Norwegian designers who are as well known in Norway as Erika Knight and Debbie Bliss are in the UK. About the Author
Mary Jane Mucklestone is a hand-knitting designer who likes the process of knitting as much as the end product that she creates. She is known for her colourful and inventive Fair Isle and colourwork designs featured in Interweave Knits, Twist Collective, Classic Elite Yarns, Alchemy Yarns, St. Denis Magazine and an assortment of books, as well as at her website MaryJaneMucklestone.com Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles earning a BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School for Design, and Textiles and Historic Costume at the University of Washington. She was photostylist for Interweave Knits magazine, has taught handwork to the early grades in a Waldorf School, as well as working for years in the fashion industry in New York City, and the related fields of advertising and interior design. Mary Jane seeks to unlock the creative force inside the heart of every knitter.
