Reflective Practice is a key element of counselling and psychotherapy training and is a fundamental aspect of effective practice. This book explores the notion of reflection by guiding students and practitioners through the history of reflective practice, from its origins with Donald Schon through to ideas of knowledge and power and how the counsellor or psychotherapist deals with issues surrounding the 'self'. A central theme of the book is the concept of self-reflection and what motivates a therapist to do an often difficult and sometimes emotionally-complex job. Other areas covered include self-therapy, using peer groups to reflect, the importance of critical and analytical thinking and the importance of research and analysis in practice.

Like the integration of up-to-date theory with user-friendly questions and exercises, the emphasis on research as integral to practice, also the case studies, summaries of texts and suggested further reading. --Lecturer, University of Leeds
This is an excellent, accesible text with a good balance of theory linked to examples. I particulaly like the layout; clear boxes for reflection, text broken into visually conducive style. --Lecturer, Herefordshire College of Technology
A very good book that works well in linking theory to practice and giving an overview of many aspects of reflective practice. I predict many students will find this book useful in helping them to develop their reflecting thinking skills. --Lecturer, University of Huddersfield
