With secure subject knowledge and understanding, trainees develop confidence and authority, and are better equipped to become effective and creative teachers. Written specifically to help trainee primary teachers develop their maths subject knowledge, this new third edition has been completely revised and updated to match the new QTS Standards, and reflects the latest thinking from the Primary National Strategy and other new initiatives. Popular, existing features are joined by new reflective tasks and "Moving On" sections that help trainees to develop the information in each chapter.

It's good to see that this book has been updated, both to reflect the new QTS Standards and also the new Primary Mathematics Framework. The strength of the book continues to be the focus on subject knowledge of mathematics, and the ways in which the book supports trainee teachers in developing good subject knowledge. --Lecturer - University of Plymouth
This is one of the books we recommend for all our trainees to update and develop their subject knowledge in mathematics. The latest edition is also invaluable as the new ITT standards are referenced throghout. I particulaly like the book as it clearly and concisely expains mathematics subject knowlege in a structured and organised way. ----Senior Lecturer - University of East London
