This book is part of the Transforming Social Work Practice series written specifically to support students on social work degree courses.
All social work students are required to undertake specific learning and assessment in partnership working and information sharing across professional disciplines and agencies. Increasingly social workers are also finding that they need to deal with a range of other professions as part of their day to day work. It is essential for social workers to be able to work collaboratively and effectively with other professionals but at the same time to practise in accordance with social work values and to retain a clear professional identity.
This book will prepare student social workers to work with a wide variety of professionals including:
youth workers
teachers
the legal profession
health professionals
Taking a very practical approach, the author looks at each profession in turn and carefully outlines their organisational framework. The points where other professional codes of ethics and values diverge from those of social work are highlighted and the impact this may have upon practice explained. Supporting the text are a range of activities and case studies to help the student understand the differences in approach and to encourage them to practise and refine their skills.
