Unfading Light shines beyond the comparative density of the material world. For the faithful, this Light exists 'Before all ages' Creed as 'Before Abraham was, I am' John 8:58. It was once revealed with particular clarity as God Incarnate - Jesus Christ - and left us a promise: 'I am with you always, even unto the end of the world' Mat. 28:20. Besides the Gospels, icons and Church symbols, there were, still are and ever will be a multitude of witnesses - bearers of this Light - prophets, apostles, saints, martyrs, and simple believers who had and have the eyes to see. The main character of this book is a Russian Orthodox nun-iconographer -Sister Joanna in the world - Julia Nicolaevna Reitlinger, 1898 - 1988, whose long life both in Russia and exiled abroad, coincided with some of the greatest, most tragic and wonderful events of the XXth century. The book includes representative illustrations of Sister Joanna's icons, murals, drawings and sketches, together with her entire but brief autobiography. It also contains many commentaries, both short and long, footnotes, quotations and photographs about events and people - bearers of Unfading Light, connected with her life.
