Synopsis

"Colours of Nature" is an eclectic compilation of images of wildlife and vistas from around the world, themed to illustrate the contribution to nature's many treasures. This book is the result of a lifelong passion for seeking out and recording enduring images of the world's natural gems. Having travelled much of the globe on business and for pleasure, the author has finally been able to pull together a diverse collection of material, recorded over many years as an amateur photographer. Inevitably this compact assembly is subjective, reflecting golden moments as well as choice subjects. The integrating theme centres on the role that colour plays in nature. In some instances this is fundamental, in others it is more incidental. Examples of wildlife ranging from the rare and reclusive to those who we have come to accept as everyday companions are covered. Examples of plans ranging from the exotic to household favourites are included. Landscapes varying in magnitude and ruggedness as well as composition and form are captured. On a much smaller scale, some types of fossils and minerals are exemplified. And finally, the dramatic ways in which the time of day as well as season of the year play a major role in influencing the colour and beauty of our environment, however, transient, are presented. Whilst brief commentary is provided with each illustration, it is intended very much for the reader to reflect on and to form their own judgements, on the significance and role that colour plays.
