"Medieval Rhapsody" is a collection of short narratives focusing on the origin, life and legacy of Father Richard, a fictional thirteenth century Benedictine monk in South West England. The story follows Richard through experiences both harrowing and spiritual. It begins with the rescue from shipwreck of his mother, an orphan child of seven and her adoption by peasants on the seashore of Porlock. Nine years later the marriage of Richard's parents is described, followed by an account of childhood experiences that moulded his adult character and led him to unexpected responsibilities and the love and esteem of those who knew him.
