Synopsis

She resolved, yet again, that she would give all this up tomorrow. Face her demons. Change her life. Finally. It was time. But not now. Now it's time for a pint. Feet into socks, socks into shoes, line into nose, key into lock and out into the sun, squinting, eyes streaming. The pub was three long minutes away. Sadie is an old prostitute, dragged reluctantly into her "career" by a drug-dealing monster with a propensity for wearing nappies. A chance encounter brings her past back to slap her in the face and she is forced to face up to a life she has tried to forget. Cherry, a feisty Northern lass, finds herself living in a less than lovely flat on Kilburn Lane with a lecherous landlord and a mysterious stalker. Her friend, Mabel, is well past her sell by date, shaking with Parkinson's Disease and insists on paying for dates with young male escorts. What are they supposed to do when they find themselves harbouring a fugitive? A Camberwell vicar with a sideline in stand-up comedy is brutally murdered. His son, Jude - the baby-faced father of a child conceived in a moment of madness behind the bins on a council estate - is found guilty of a crime he didn't commit. On the run after an inadvertent escape from prison, how is he going to prove his innocence - and find his daughter? Coincidence forces characters and plot lines to collide with momentous consequences... the loose ends hurtle together, accelerating towards a stomach-curdling finale. Dark, bloody, sad and funny, belt yourself in for a knuckle-grazing, freewheeling, rollercoaster ride...

About the Author

Sonja Bigg lives in Ramsgate with numerous children, a mad husband and two dogs - one of which she regularly wants to murder, on account of his incessant squeaking. Born into a highly abnormal family, she has followed an unusual career path, including jobs as a security guard, dancer, model, film extra, fruit picker and untalented makeup girl. She would have tried singing, but everybody begged her not to. Twenty years of being a Chartered Physiotherapist and managing Adult Therapy Services in a London Primary Care Trust came to an abrupt halt when she gave birth to a profoundly deaf daughter with cerebral palsy - and decided to use the fragments of time that she wasn't using to keep her daughter alive to pull on her weird and random selection of life experience and write a book. This is the result.
