The new editions of the Legal Practice Course Guides have been extensively revised and updated to take account of the many legislative and other changes that have taken place. Based on Janet Baker's "Solicitors' Accounts: A Student's Guide", Kay and Baker's book is a user-friendly guide to a subject that often poses serious problems for students unfamiliar with the principles and practice of accounting. It has been thoroughly revised and updated to meet the needs of students on the Legal Practice Course and includes coverage of the Law Society's Solicitors' Accounts Rules 1998 in depth. The easy-to-read format concisely explains the basic principles and how to apply them. Each accounting procedure to be learned is broken down into discrete manageable steps to aid learning. These are followed by worked examples and straightforward exercises and questions to test understanding.
Dale Kay was formerly a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she was Pervasives co-ordinator and Accounts subject leader on the Legal Practice Course. She has lectured widely to the profession on the Solicitors' Accounts Rules. Janet Baker is a partner in private practice and was formerly a Senior Lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University, where she taught the accounting component of the Legal Practice Course.
