Here is information about Sheet 231: One Inch Sheet 231 Merthyr & District 1908 - published 2006; intro by Derrick Pratt. ISBN.978-1-84151-906-7 This One Inch to the Mile map covers an area at the north of the Valleys, with the industrial area around Merthyr Tydfil and Aberdare, and the much more rural part of south Brecknockshire, an area known as Fforest Fawr. Near the centre of the map is the village of Ystradfellte and we also include a detailed map of this on the reverse. The northern part of the Taf and Cynon valleys are shown, together with a portion of the Vale of Neath, and there are numerous railways, including the Neath & Brecon and the Brecon & Merthyr lines. Around Merthyr and Aberdare are collieries and ironworks, the disused Glamorganshire Canal, mineral lines; while Hirwaun and Blaengwrach are also included. The map stretches from Resolven northward to Beacons Reservoir, and from Pen-rhos eastward to Dowlais Top station. It is not possible to list the many hamlets, farmsteads and other topographical features shown on these maps.
