Review

'Manna's illustrations in pale, watery washes and deeper, mottled shades of ink have a gentle eloquence altogether in harmony with the poems' - Books for Keeps --Books for Keeps. First Morning - Poems About Time, compiled by Nikki Siegen Smith is a beautifully illustrated anthology of poems that have been chosen to encourage adults and children to laugh together, to take them to unimagined places and to remind them of special times. The collection will stimulate children's ideas about the concept of time and provide excellent motivation for creative writing. The book is a wonderful introduction to the work of a wide range of well-known and less familiar poets who introduce new and unexpected views of time, from seasonal changes to daily rituals. It is a book to be read aloud to share the pleasure of words such as tintinnabulation'! - Nursery Education --Nursery Education
