Synopsis
An evocative selection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century photos chronicling the changes in the lives and surroundings of the people of the Pollokshaws district of Glasgow. Big works such as the building of the Riverford Road Bridge in 1923 are pictured along with details of the old fashioned sweeties on sale in Granny Smith's in Shawbridge Street circa 1950. The author's recollections include taking a paper bag with the entire takings of the local Co-op store to the bank each Friday on the bus. No security was needed for what in today's money would amount to around £10,000! A treasure trove of a book for visitors, historians and residents alike.
