Synopsis

The latest Rail Map Europe offers a comprehensive look at the continent's railways, capturing not just every mainline route but also an intricate web of secondary lines and branch connections. It's designed as both a planning resource and a trusted travel companion for anyone exploring Europe by train. Fully revised and updated in September 2024, this third edition includes the latest adjustments to ensure accuracy for summer 2025 travel.

Created by the team behind the renowned European Rail Timetable, this lightweight, folded map charts all passenger rail routes across Europe—excluding only the suburban networks of major cities. Paired with the timetable, it becomes an indispensable tool for planning journeys across borders and through regions both well-trodden and off the beaten track.

Key Features:

  • Complete coverage of every mainline railway route across Europe
  • Colour-coded high-speed lines for instant clarity
  • Highlighted scenic routes for unforgettable journeys
  • Tourist railways, including many seasonal services
  • Selected principal tourist and heritage lines (some with limited seasonal or weekly operation)

On the reverse side, an enlarged map zooms in on the corridor between Paris and Warsaw, offering greater detail for one of Europe's most travelled regions.

About the Author

Running to 674 pages and listing around 50,000 trains, the Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable was long considered the Interrailer's bible until it was discontinued in August 2013. However, thanks to the persistence of John Potter, one of its original compilers, the timetable was re-launched in March 2014 as an independent guide after Thomas Cook handed over the rights to the publication. Aside from the duration of World War Two, the timetable has been in continuous publication since 1873 and we at ERT are proud to continue its heritage.
