As Co-Editors and reviewers of this contribution, we admire the authors for crafting an impressive and timely overview of a rapidly changing field. We feel this book will be a valuable resource not only for urologists but also for oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and all other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with bladder cancer. It is divided into 8 very well-written chapters across two sections. Section 1 focuses on diagnosis, the impact of industry and genetics on the causation of bladder cancer, and the use of AI in the diagnostic pathways of bladder cancer management. The contemporary, updated narrative review on the molecular pathways and genetic basis of bladder cancer is an interesting read. Section 2 focuses on the management of bladder cancer and the perioperative care pathway, dealing with BCG-unresponsive NMI bladder cancer; radical cystectomy (robot-assisted); and another chapter focuses on a comprehensive pathway for perioperative outcomes. BCG-unresponsive disease is a significant management challenge. Standard of care, i. e., radical cystectomy, has excellent 5-year CSS but is associated with significant morbidity and is often not acceptable to some patients. In addition, another set of patients is not eligible for RC. Bladder-sparing strategies for BCG-unresponsive patients are an area of active research. There are many FDA-approved intravesical and systemic options, but there is a dearth of long-term data to support their efficacy. Radical cystectomy is the gold standard for managing muscle-invasive and high-volume non-muscle-invasive bladder cancers. It is associated with significant short- and long-term morbidity. In recent years, specialized centers worldwide have been offering RA radical cystectomy. Three chapters in Section 2 focus on robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC), including its technique and complications. RARC is associated with lower short-term morbidity and equivalent long-term oncological and functional outcomes compared with SOC open cystectomy. The technical aspects of performing RARC with an orthotopic bladder are described in detail. Two chapters focus on complications and their management in patients undergoing RARC, with an emphasis on both identification and prevention. This book distills complex medical concepts into compelling, accessible language.
