Rationale and methodologies for moving legacy applications to a hyper-scale cloud - specifically Azure
Clients have different current situations, goals and requirements for considering a hyper-scale cloud like Azure. This book will cover the possible scenarios and provide the options, approaches, technical considerations and future options for a migration of legacy applications to Microsoft Azure.
You will begin with a clear understanding of the legacy systems are and where you are starting from and understand the main concerns are when starting a migration. Next you will investigate why distributed architectures are so compelling and then dive into the various components of the Azure platform that need to be considered when migrating from legacy systems. You wiil then focus on the approaches to modernizing legacy applications and enumerate the R’s of modernizing (i.e. Rehost, Refactor, Reachitect, Retire). You will also learn about integration approaches and things to keep an eye out for in the near future.
By the end of the book, you will have a plan and strategy for modernizing your legacy workloads. You will know the pitfalls and strategies to help get you to the desired state.
This book focuses on both decision makers and implementers who are considering Azure as a potential option for their legacy estate. These individuals such as CIOs, CTOs, Data and Application Architects, Developers (both legacy and cloud) and Business Strategists. Prior knowledge of both legacy languages and modern cloud-based languages like C#/.NET and Java would be helpful
