Ian Simpson studied at Sunderland College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London. He has taught at several colleges and universities including Hornsey College of Art, London, and Syracuse University, New York; was head of St Martin's School of Art, London, 1972-88; and is now a consultant to the Open College of Arts, UK. His paintings have been included in public and private collections in Britain, Sweden and the United States. He has written and presented three series on art for BBC TV and is the author of numerous books and articles.
