As in his first two books, Robert Choulerton sets out his thoughts in measured, eloquent English, with a touch of 'liberated' vocabulary, where necessary. Two aspects in particular, inform his writing. From the detached point of view of the introvert, he is personal, and always candid; from his humanistic point of view, he sees us not as God's chosen people but - the better to understand ourselves - as humanoid apes, of evolutionary provenance.
To his credit, he does not scorn Christianity, but praises the comforts it can provide. Indeed, in his musings far and wide, he tempers disagreement with understanding.
