The Treehouse tells amusing stories of a young boy's childhood.
After an adventurous flight, the child and his family settle in a quiet suburb of Athens. The quiet does not last long. The boy rebels against ridiculous and oppressive obsessions of adults, such as afternoon siesta and compulsory schooling. Armed with a slingshot he creates havoc in the neighbourhood.
But fighting against injustice to children is more fun when done collectively. He joins a gang of local kids with the same beliefs, and distinguishes himself in rebellious mischief.
Amusing friendships are formed with a judge, a priest, an extra-terrestrial tourist and a musical dog-prodigy.
The Treehouse by Chris Dashmore owes its title to a small wooden cabin that was built by the boy in an olive tree to serve as a refuge from menacing adults. The author claims that the treehouse is still up there, as purposeful and functional as ever.
