Allan Lavell has been a researcher at the Latin American Social Science Faculty based in San Jose Costa Rica for the last 29 years. Trained in in urban and regional development he has specialised in disaster risk, disaster risk management and climate change risk for the last 30 years. He received the UN Sasakawa Prize in 2015 for his contributions to disaster risk management worldwide.
