This delightful tale tells of a fearless lion, whom all other animals are frightened of. He captures a mouse who dared to venture into his cave and is surprised when the mouse negotiates with him. He asks to be freed and in return he promises to help the lion when he needs it most. The lion scoffs at the thought of a little mouse helping him but lets him go regardless. One day, the lion is caught in a trap by hunters and the mouse is able to save him by gnawing the rope.

As with all fables, children can also learn important lessons. The moral for Aesop’s Fables: The Lion and the Mouse focuses on kindness, not judging people on their appearance, and how those perceived to be weak may be the strongest of us all.
