About the Author

After a sparkling performance of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Genevieve Helsby graduated with a distinction in piano performance as part of her degree at Durham University. Her passion for conveying the fun and vitality of classical music to children has led to a number of hugely successful books and apps, most notably Meet the Instruments of the Orchestra!, My First Classical Music Book and My First Orchestra Book. As well as teaching the piano, she has presented children’s concerts promoting some of these titles, and she recently narrated her own rhyming verses for Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals in concert with the Sinfonia of Cambridge.Jason Chapman’s busy and varied illustration career has included large-scale illustrations for museums in London, Chicago and Singapore, and long-term associations with the NSPCC, illustrating their Christmas ‘Letters from Santa’, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, illustrating books, publications and merchandise. He has produced many children’s books, and illustrated live on TV for the BBC’s Springwatch Unsprung, after his Springwatch-inspired illustrations were spotted on Twitter. Jason’s Stan and Mabel, about a music-loving dog and cat, was inspired by his previous collaboration with Genevieve Helsby on My First Classical Music Book; it was adapted into a hugely successful show performed internationally, including with the London Symphony Orchestra, in Edinburgh with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and in Perth, Australia with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.
