Synopsis

You've heard the saying, don't poke the bear. Well, this metaphor doesn't only belong to the Western Hemisphere of the world anymore... A mother grizzly has gone AWOL from the Arctic and is fighting for survival against the predators of Africa, all while being pursued by a tycoon, so she can be brought back to his gladiatorial games. Can she survive the rigors of Africa in order to return to the Arctic? Will she be reunited with her unceremoniously plundered cubs? A mother's love is fierce, especially when separated from her loved ones. So, a warning to the reader: "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, nor hell a fury like a mother grizzly done wrong."

About the Author

I was born John Peter Raguz on January 23, 1959, in the West End of Toronto. My mother was born in Vegreville, Alberta and is from Polish roots. My father, at the age of two, migrated with his family to Kirkland Lake, Ontario, from Croatia, eventually settling into the Mount Dennis area of Toronto. My world in the 1960s and 70s helped shape my ideas for writing this story. Growing up on the "original six" NHL, you couldn't wait for the puck to drop on a Saturday night and let the combatants go to it! I grew up watching all those great Ray Harryhausen fantasy movies that would always keep me asking about the world of dinosaurs and other battles that took place between fierce predators. I really started writing about five years ago just to keep myself busy and have since written prose, poems, and two manuscripts. Horribilis is the first work I've attempted to get published, and I hope the readers out there wonder about the same "what ifs" I asked myself while growing up.
