Her husband is gone. Her daughter has stopped talking. At the age of fifty-six, Olive is stuck in her loneliness, crippled by one big fear that she has failed…
It’s been a year since her husband’s sudden passing. Olive has finally got back on her feet again, keeping her house clean, eating well and carrying on with her work. Her life is finally back to normal except there is one big fear that haunts Olive, day and night.
The thing is, when her husband died, he was not the only person Olive lost. Because her stepdaughter, someone Olive has always loved as her own, suddenly stopped talking to her.
What have I done wrong?
It is a question too painful for Olive to face. To think that she has failed at the one thing she wanted to do right ever since she married her husband. To be a good mother deserving of her daughter.
That is why Olive carries on with her life, trying not to think about it, trying to hide away her mounting fear…
Until one day, she walks into a coffee shop and befriends Maple, an intriguing young woman and mathematician, who seems to understand Olive’s hidden grief like no other. Neither of them is aware how their new friendship is about to cause shifts in their lives. How Olive is slowly getting out of her head and starting to look at her life from a new perspective…
Is Olive finally ready to face her fear? Will she have the courage to save her relationship with her daughter? Grab a copy to discover Olive’s search for a new beginning.

Maiko Serizawa is a storywriter and mathematician living in Ottawa, the capital city of Canada. What inspired her onto the journey of story writing was the early loss of her younger brother at the age of six. At the time, she wrote a series of adventure stories starring her brother and discovered the healing power in writing. As a writer, she is most fascinated by the subtle stories found in our day-to-day life. She loves visiting coffee shops for writing, and Olive's Diary is inspired by her favourite café in Ottawa and her years of experience at different coffee shops around the world. You can find her on her website https: //www.maple-and-olive.com/ where she keeps a daily blog of short stories. She is also a host of the weekly show Maiko's Story Photograph Podcast available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
