Regenerative Power is big-think nonfiction that reframes power from possession and control to relationship, participation and answerability to life through forty-eight emergent laws drawn from living systems science, Indigenous wisdom, women's history and lived experience, inviting readers to rethink how they live, lead and belong.
Power shapes almost every part of our lives. It influences our relationships, institutions, communities and collective choices. Yet much of what we have been taught about power is based on an old story: power is something we possess, protect and exercise over others.
Regenerative Power asks what becomes possible when we begin with a different understanding.
In living systems, power does not belong to one part alone. It moves through relationships. It depends upon participation, feedback, diversity, timing and the capacity of the whole system to remain alive. Healthy power does not simply achieve an outcome. It strengthens the conditions through which people, communities and the larger living world can continue to develop.
The book presents forty-eight emergent laws of regenerative power. They are not rules, commandments or techniques for gaining advantage. They are recurring patterns that became visible through more than three decades of practice as an architect, futurist and regenerative development practitioner.
The laws are organised as a journey.
The opening chapters examine the inherited stories and assumptions that shape how we see power. The book then moves through inner coherence, relational intelligence and strategic courage before widening towards ecological wisdom, temporal awareness, adaptive capacity and cultural transformation.
Each law is explored through a consistent but varied combination of metaphor, explanation, lived experience, scientific research, ancient or Indigenous wisdom, women's historical examples, quotations and reflection. These different ways of knowing are brought into conversation without suggesting that they are interchangeable or that any single tradition provides the whole answer.
These laws are not commandments, techniques or formulas for success. They are patterns to notice, test and inhabit.
What becomes more alive because of the way we exercise it?
Regenerative Power is an invitation to rethink how we live, lead and belong - and to discover power not as possession, but as participation within the living systems we already share.
This is not a book arguing that conflict, ambition, boundaries or decisive action should disappear. Nor does it present regeneration as endless agreement or harmony. Regenerative power may require courage, resistance, discernment and the refusal to participate in systems that diminish life. The difference lies in what our power serves, how it is carried and what it leaves behind.
The book is written for thoughtful general readers, leaders, practitioners, educators, designers, community builders and anyone questioning the forms of power they have inherited. It does not ask readers to accept all forty-eight laws as fixed truths. It invites them to test the laws against their own experience and to notice the kinds of relationships and futures their actions help create.
At its heart, Regenerative Power offers a simple proposition:
Power is regenerative when its exercise increases the capacity of life to renew itself.
